| AOL Moviefone names Prisoner of Azkaban one of the "Best Movies Ever" |
[December 25, 2009 @ 4:27am] |
|
http://mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/3131 AOL Moviefone has released a list detailing what they believe are the best films of the decade, and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban takes 10th place:
During his third year at Hogwarts, Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) learns that Lord Voldemort's acolyte Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped Azkaban prison with an eye toward making Harry's "Boy That Lived" moniker an overstatement. No worries, Harry's friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermoine Granger (Emma Watson) are on hand to help him sort out the shifting allegiances -- and shapes! -- in a tale where nothing is as it seems. Darker than the first two Potter films, to legions of fans the third installment of J.K. Rowlings' juggernaut may or may not be the best of the bunch; but, really, what Muggle wouldn't enjoy this.
Do you agree that out of all the Potter films, this is the best one? Personally, I'd put Order of the Phoenix or Half-Blood Prince on this list instead. Thanks to Rory for the tip!

| PowerDVD capping issue |
[December 24, 2009 @ 10:13pm] |
I've been capping DVDs with Cyberlink PowerDVD 8 for over half a year, but now I'd like to cap video clips (stored on my hard drive), and the only thing that is saved when I press the cap button is a 0-byte blank file. Does PowerDVD only cap DVDs, or is it possible to cap files as well? (Note: I just tried to cap from a DVD and it worked, so my program IS working.)
Thanks, and happy holidays! =)

| My Saturday |
[December 24, 2009 @ 10:53pm] |
|
http://www.thefoodpornographer.com/?p=1881 So Merry Christmas, everyone! I’d planned to sleep in this morning, but I guess I’m a creature of habit. I’ve been up since 4.30am, my usual weekday wake-up time. Since I’m up, why not publish a blog post?
I had a busy Saturday morning recently - went to the post office to mail a package to a friend overseas, saw the doctor (nothing bad, just needed a new prescription), then went to the shops to check out the sales and start my Christmas shopping.
Here’s something I spotted in Myer - it’s a set of bookends that are supposed to say “BOOK”, but I read it as “BO OK” (BO is OK… ewww) XD
 </p>
While I was out, Jac had her niece and nephew over for the morning while their mum Kelsie was at work. They went to the park, went with Jac to her office and then came home and played Wii. They then all got into the car and came to pick me up from the shops with my bursting shopping bag. When we got home, Jac got lunch ready, assembling a platter of cold roast pork, cheese, pickled onions and gherkins, and salad. Kelsie got to our place at around half past one, and lunch was served!

Jac had also picked up a pesto pasta salad from the supermarket.

As well as the roast pork, Jac also bought a barbecue chook from the supermarket (sorry, no photo of the chicken). Here’s my plate, with roast pork, salad, and half a bread roll with barbecue chicken and mayo in it.

For sweets, Kelsie had brought a pull-apart iced bun thingy stuffed with apple. Kels, what’s it called again?

We also had fresh sweet strawberries.

The bun was nice, but extremely sweet and sticky - very messy on the fingers!

After Kelsie and the kids went home, Jac brought the cats inside and locked up so we could go out to City Farmers to buy cat food and a few bits and pieces for the garden (mulch, sheep poo etc). As soon as the cats were in, they collapsed on the tiles in exactly the same positions as they’d been outside on the patio.

We stopped by the shops at Riverton to go to Big W before City Farmers. Guess who was in town? Mr Greedy!

My Greedy is my second-favourite Mr Men, my first being Mr Noisy. Mr Noisy was the first Mr Men book I ever owned (I have just about all of the original Mr Men books). I loved his story (it has a butcher in it named Mr Bacon!), and although I’m not into shoes, for some reason I really love his big shoes. I love the original Mr Men cartoons that were based on the original stories, as per the video below:
“I’D LIKE A PIECE OF MEAT!” LOLOL.
When we got home, we found the cats had moved onto the couch.

They looked very comfy and made no effort to move or get up.

| MuggleSpace celebrates its 1st birthday! |
[December 24, 2009 @ 3:56pm] |
|
http://mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/3129 I received this e-mail the other day from Johanna which pretty much sums it all up:
Hi MuggleCast! I just wanted to thank you for creating MuggleSpace. I met three other Swedes there, and we decided to meet for real. So we did. And it was awesome! If you hadn't created MuggleSpace, I wouldn't have met them at all. MuggleSpace is a great place to meet people that you have a lot in commmon with, so thank you!
It has been a fantastic year of social networking on MuggleSpace, and we hope it continues for years to come! Thank you to each and every member (now totaling close to 25,000) who has contributed to MuggleSpace simply by signing up and meeting new Potter-loving friends.
The success of MuggleSpace wouldn't be possible if it weren't for the hard working staff who maintain the social network and keep it fresh. Huge thank-yous go out to Luke the Referee, Madam Rosmerta, Luff 'puff, Duchess Bex Evans, Allie/Magical Sea Star of Hotness, Lucas, Ashlee, Queen/Empress Alexandra, Royal Peasant Christalina, Kelsey, Adri, Mikey, Fatima, Heidi, and Emmielovegood. You're an amazing team!

| USA Today gives Potter six spots on Top 10 Books of 2000s List, but not No. 1 |
[December 24, 2009 @ 3:25pm] |
|
http://mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/3127 The Harry Potter series continues to pick up the accolades as the decade comes to a close. USA Today has released an article documenting the top books of the 2000s, with Potter taking 6 of the top 10 spots. Surprising to some may be that you don't see a Potter book until No. 3. The reasoning?
Rowling was a best seller before 2000, when fourth book 'Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire' sold a record 3 million copies its first weekend.
By 2007's release of the finale, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows,' speculation about Harry's death (unfounded) rose to levels not seen since Charles Dickens' 19th-century serials. A record 8.3 million copies sold in a day.
The top 2 spots went to Twilight by Stephenie Meyer and The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown. Order of the Phoenix came in at No. 3 and Deathly Hallows was way down the list at No. 7. Prisoner of Azkaban was the only Potter book that failed to make the list.
Do you agree? Leave your thoughts in the comments!

| Billy Lee in the bathroom and Merry Christmas! |
[December 24, 2009 @ 12:43pm] |
|
http://www.thefoodpornographer.com/?p=1883
On weekday mornings, as I get ready for work, the cats like to hang out in the bathroom while I take a shower. Billy Lee especially loves to sit on the bathroom counter. Doesn’t she look relaxed?

I can’t believe it’s only a few hours to Christmas, and I can’t believe I don’t have to be back at work until 4 January. No plans to go anywhere, I just plan to enjoy not having to go to work! DD
From Jac and me: Have a great Christmas, guys! The cats would join in the Christmas wishes, but frankly, they’re too busy being cats and really don’t care! LOL.

| Dinner - flat rice noodles with marinated pork and turkey |
[December 23, 2009 @ 11:36am] |
|
http://www.thefoodpornographer.com/?p=1874
This was a delicious rice noodle stir-fry Jac cooked, with sliced turkey steaks and pork steaks! She’d bought the turkey steaks and pork steaks fully intending to cook them up in whitey meals, but the hungry glutton she cooks for had a craving for something more Asian! She stir-fried the turkey and pork with bok choy, spring onions, fresh baby corn and mung bean sprouts. It was so good - I ate a huge bowl for dinner and another big bowl the next morning for breakfast. And finished the last of the noodles for breakfast the morning after that. When I asked her why she used both turkey and pork, she simply shrugged and said “because they were both there and because I could”.

Pixel had already eaten her dinner with a little dish of cat milk. She should’ve had a full belly but I guess she just wants our food because it’s our food! Here she is, looking fixatedly at our noodle bowls.

And here’s a face we know so well - it says: “Why can’t I have some of your food?”

| WB releases cast list for Deathly Hallows - Part 1, Miranda Richardson confirmed |
[December 23, 2009 @ 8:08pm] |
|
http://mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/3126 Warner Brothers has released a list of Deathly Hallows - Part 1 cast members in a 2010 Preview Kit for members of the press. There are several new-to-Potter cast members listed who we've confirmed over the past year, including Bill Nighy (Scrimgeour), Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius), Ciaran Hinds (Aberforth), Jamie Campbell-Bower (Grindelwald), and David O'Hara (Runcorn).
But, we did notice one actress who we thought may not come back.
Miranda Richardson, known to Potter fans for her role as Rita Skeeter in Goblet of Fire, will be in Deathly Hallows. She had made some (quite frankly) strange remarks about returning for future Potter films during Goblet of Fire's New York premiere in November 2005:
"Why aren't I coming back? I don't know. Partly because it's always nice to see new people. And also because they'll have a different angle on the story. It's never going to be the book on film exactly. The book is one thing, the film is another. They'll take certain aspects from the book and, you know, make it something that they hope will be commercial and people will want to see."
You can see video from this interview with MuggleNet at this link, starting at the 6-minute mark. Strange comments from 2005 aside, we now know for sure that Miranda will be back. Hurrah!

| Fugs and Pieces: December 23 |
[December 23, 2009 @ 7:00pm] |
|
http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/go_fug_yourself/2009/12/fugs_and_pieces122309.html And here it is: Our last post before the holiday break. For me, that means spiking my hot chocolate with kahlua -- or rather, spiking my kahlua with a little bit of hot chocolate -- and preparing our traditional Christmas Eve feast of bangers and mash, eaten by the fireplace while watching Blackadder's Christmas Carol. I CAN'T WAIT. Because this time of year turns me into an 11-year old. I am totally leaving out milk and cookies for Santa even though -- SPOILER, children, LOOK AWAY -- I am going to be eating them myself.
Have a happy, healthy, safe, luxurious, rip-roaring, alternately rambunctious and relaxing, rapacious, and rockin' holiday. We can't wait to get back together on January 4, after our brief but (hopefully) restorative holiday break, to laugh at the awesome haiku entries and shine the fug light on some more celebrity outfits. Have an awesome holiday. Frankly, we think you guys are the bee's knees. True story.
And now, without further yammering:
-- If you want to plan your next vacation based on which hotels celebrities use for their trysts, then this handy guide is made for you. [Oyster Hotel Reviews] -- Gawker wonders, who is the hipster of the decade? HOW TO CHOOSE JUST ONE? [Gawker] -- Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell all released statements about the experience of stepping into Heath Ledger's shoes to finish his last film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Unsurprisingly, they slobber all over Terry Gilliam, but once you get past that, their words about Heath are really touching in their eloquence, and remind us all of a talent lost too soon. [LaineyGossip] -- Two intrepid New York staffers test-drive the Louis Vuitton bunny ears. Yes, you read that right. [The Cut] -- EW wants you to help them select the dress of the decade. And before you comment, remember that Bjork's swan dress? TOTALLY eligible. [EW.com] -- Demi Moore's lawyer is hopping mad. The photographer that claims Demi's W cover was airbrished got sent a letter that claims defamation. Celebitchy overlays the cover photo with the runway image that's caused the brouhaha, along with a statement from the photographer. Drama! [Celebitchy] -- Speaking of the Moore-Kutcher-Willis clan, Ashton Kutcher claims The Beautiful Life: TBL failed because nobody knew it was on, which is... charitable of him, considering that everybody I know was fully aware it was on and simply chose not to watch it, or tried and found it unwatchable. But, potato, po-tah-to! At any rate, for those of you who WOULD have been total die-hards, the series is getting a second life on YouTube. Even if you don't care, click on the article just to see how cranky the author is about having to deal with the person referred to in her professional life by the idiotic moniker "iJustine." [Washington Post] -- And finally, what better way to celebrate the holidays than by zapping someone with a cattle prod?

| Fug the Cover: Leighton Meester |
[December 23, 2009 @ 6:01pm] |
|
http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/go_fug_yourself/2009/12/fug_the_cover_leighton_meester122309.html
I first saw this cover on Girl with a Satchel and I really wish someone had been here to see my face when it loaded in its entirety. Because of how I looked like I just got shoved off the Sue Sylvester Express, Destination: HORROR. You guys, I love Blair, but the more I see Leighton Meester in Non-Blair-Environs, the more I NEVER want to see her out of character, EVER. Eyes so smokier than mine during California's last batch of wildfires, plus red lips (great, but big eyes AND big lips can make you look like a mail order bride as costumed by someone working on an early season of Law and Order), plus quasi-coy finger-biting, AND not-coy-enough hem lifting? WE GET IT. YOU'RE NAUGHTY. IT'S BORING.

| Ask Emma a question about Fair Trade Fashion |
[December 23, 2009 @ 7:24pm] |
|
http://mugglenet.com/app/news/full_story/3125 It was announced in September that Emma Watson would be working on a new fashion line with People Tree which'll be available in February 2010. Emma will be working as a creative advisor.
To mark the news, People Tree is offering an opportunity for fans to ask Emma a question about her association with Fair Trade Fashion:
Are you eager to know why she thinks it's so important? Why she's so excited about using fashion as a tool to help reduce poverty? Maybe you are wondering why she chose to work with People Tree or what benefits she thinks sustainable fashion can bring? Or perhaps you just want to ask her why young people should care about where their clothes come from at all?
If you would like to ask Emma a question about Fair Trade and sustainable fashion simply film yourself asking your question and email the MPEG to askemma@peopletree.co.uk.
Emma will be answering the questions via video. Please have your questions submitted by January 17th! For more information, click here.

| No Fugbt |
[December 23, 2009 @ 5:00pm] |
|
http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/go_fug_yourself/2009/12/no_fugbt122309.html It's always tough to fug people's winter wear, because when it's freezing outside and there's just been a snowpocalypse, I am of the mind that one should put on whatever one needs in order to live.
And if that happens to be a coat that's an ode to color bars, well, so be it. As an added bonus, if Joseph's technicolor dreamcoat gets lost at the cleaners, she can sell him this replacement. Easy money.
